Terms of Use

The legal terms that govern your use of vwlaw.ca. Last updated January 2026.

No legal advice; no lawyer-client relationship

The content on vwlaw.ca (the "Site") is provided for general information purposes only. It is not legal advice and is not a substitute for retaining a lawyer who can review your specific circumstances. Visiting the Site, reading its content, or submitting the contact form does not create a lawyer-client relationship between you and VanWest Law Professional Corporation ("VanWest Law").

A lawyer-client relationship is created only by a written retainer agreement signed after VanWest Law has completed a conflict check, agreed on scope and fees, and confirmed the engagement in writing.

Confidentiality of submissions

Please do not include confidential or sensitive details in the contact form until we have confirmed in writing that we can act on your matter. Information you submit before a retainer is opened may not be subject to solicitor-client privilege.

Accuracy & currency

We aim to keep the Site accurate and current, but legal information changes. We make no representation that the content reflects the law as of the date you read it. The Site may contain links to external sites; we are not responsible for the content of those sites.

Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, VanWest Law, its principal, employees, and agents are not liable for any loss or damage arising out of your use of, or reliance on, content on the Site. Your sole remedy is to stop using the Site.

Intellectual property

The Site, including its design, copy, code, and graphics, is the property of VanWest Law or its licensors and is protected by applicable intellectual-property laws. You may view and print content for personal, non-commercial use only.

Third-party services

Where the Site references accounting, tax, or other third-party services, those services are provided by independent firms under their own terms and policies. We are not responsible for the acts, omissions, or content of any third party.

Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the Province of Ontario and the federal laws of Canada applicable in Ontario. Any disputes arising out of or related to the Site or these Terms are subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Ontario.

Changes

We may update these Terms from time to time. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page indicates when they were last revised. Continued use of the Site after a revision constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.
